Want to quit smoking? - Focus on the positivesFocus on the positives. Isn't that true with anything in life? If we focus on the good things in life, then the negatives have a tendency to fade away. The same is true for quitting smoking. The decision to quit smoking is truly a positive. But the negative aspects can easily overshadow the benefits of quitting smoking. For instance, when you quit smoking you will naturally feel one or more of the following things: grumpy, depressed, irritable, frustrated, restless, Etc. If you focus on all of these emotions, then you may go back to smoking because they are all very negative emotions that you don't want to be feeling.
But what would happen if you focused on all of the positives? What are the positives you may ask, aside from living longer? Let me begin by saying that you will be more attractive to other people. How? By smelling better for one. Your hair, fingers, clothes and general presence will be much more palatable. If you happen to be dating, then you are more attractive because you don't taste like an ashtray when leaning in for that good night kiss. And have you ever noticed someone driving down the road with a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his or her mouth? It is not a very attractive image. So focus on the fact that you are taking an investment in the way that other people perceive you, and you will now be seen in a more positive light. Secondly, you will not be nearly as inconvenienced as a non-smoker. As a smoker, you are forced to find places to smoke that are deemed acceptable. If you are in the home of a non-smoker, or sometimes in your own home, you are forced to go outside to find a place to smoke whether it is snowing, hailing, raining, or just incredibly cold. You have to brave the elements in order to smoke a cigarette. If you do not smoke, you can remain comfortable and you will no longer have to miss the first part, or last part, of your favorite show because you had to go outside to smoke a cigarette. Lastly, you will be spared from the endless diseases and health complications that are related to smoking. Your lifespan will be longer and you will be able to take walks without getting winded. So focus on the positives as you begin your journey to becoming a non-smoker, and perhaps you will be able to quit for life. |
